Amazing kids books on Black British history - part 1
Bright Stars of Black British History by J. T. William and illustrated by Angela Vives
This is a history based around the Black figures that have influenced and shaped British history. If you want to get to know the stories of notable Black figures this is definitely the book for you. I loved the illustrations and found it really engaging. JT Williams writes about history in such a light and compelling way even when tackling big topics. I particularly loved reading about Harold Moody, who wasn't familiar to me, and his work in setting up the League for coloured People. He even campaigned parliament to add Black British history to the curriculum for schools in the 1930s, 100 years later and we still aren't doing enough. The other figure I loved learning about was Evelyn Dove who was an entertainer and signer and the great aunt of the author!
